Bored Zone App (boredzone.app) is a small collection of free browser games. This page explains what information is collected when you use it, and why.
There are no accounts on this site, and playing the games never asks you for any personal information. We do not collect payment details, because there is nothing here to sign up or pay for. The only time you give us anything about yourself is if you choose to send a message through the contact page, and even there your name and email address are optional.
Best scores, best times, streaks, saved games and your chosen difficulty are kept in your browser's local storage, under keys beginning boredzone.. This is not a cookie and it is never sent to us or to anyone else — it never leaves your device.
Clearing your browser's site data for boredzone.app erases it. If you do that, your scores are gone and cannot be recovered, because we never had a copy.
If you use the contact form, we receive what you type into it: what the message is about, which game (if you choose one), the message itself, and your name and email address if you give them. They are used only to read and, if you left an address, reply to your message. They are never added to a mailing list, sold or shared for marketing.
Messages are stored in Google Cloud Firestore, run by Google, in a database belonging to the owner of this site, and a notification containing the message is sent to the owner through Discord so it gets seen promptly. The address your message came from is used for a few minutes to stop the form being flooded, and is not stored with the message.
Messages are kept until they have been dealt with and are then deleted, or deleted sooner if you ask. To ask, send another message or use the details on marclemasson.co.uk.
This site is free to play and is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads.
Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads, and may use information about your visits to this and other websites to show ads for products and services that may interest you. We do not have access to, and do not control, those cookies.
You can review and change your Google ad settings at any time at myadcenter.google.com, and read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
We use Google Analytics to understand roughly how many people visit and which games they play. As well as page visits and rough location, we record when a game is started and when it finishes — which game it was, the difficulty or size chosen, whether it was won or lost, how long it took, and how many moves or guesses it took.
None of that identifies you, and it is never linked to anything you typed. We use it to decide what to build next and whether a difficulty is pitched about right.
You can opt out across all sites using Google's browser opt-out add-on.
If you are in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, you are shown a consent message before personalised ads are served, and we rely on your consent as the legal basis for advertising and analytics cookies. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time using the privacy options link in that message.
Declining does not stop you playing. Every game on this site works exactly the same either way.
The site is hosted on Google Firebase Hosting. Like almost all web hosting, their servers may record standard technical information such as your IP address and browser type as part of delivering the page. We do not have access to those logs.
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data held about you, and to object to processing.
In practice the only personal data we hold is anything you put in a message — your scores are on your own device and the analytics we see is aggregated. Requests about data held by Google should be directed to Google, whose privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
The games here are suitable for all ages, but the site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page will be updated.
Bored Zone App is run by Marc Le Masson. Questions about this policy can be sent via marclemasson.co.uk or the contact page.
